Zanzibar Hotels

Mnemba Island Lodge

Mnemba is run by one of our very favourite brands, with which we enjoy a well established relationship and Mnemba Island Lodge certainly lives up to expectations. Located on a private island, and comprising only ten plush bandas, the hotel offers a truly luxurious and exclusive experience. The resort is all-inclusive, including watersports; 2 scuba dives a day for PADI certifcate holders, kayaking, snorkelling and wind-surfing.

Mnemba Island Lodge Rates

Mnemba Island Lodge is one of Zanzibar’s most exclusive resorts, carrying the highest price tag of all the accommodation we feature, typically ranging from $1,045 per person per night in October through mid-December, to $1,395 per person per night for the rest of the year; or substantially more if - like Bill Gates did - you wish to empty the island and use it exclusively. The island is closed from around 8th to 20th May each year for annual maintenance. Rates of around $715 per person per night are possible, but only during the first week in April and the last week in May.

Accommodation at Mnemba Island Lodge

All ten bandas have direct beach access and private beach salas with sunbeds. The private veranda areas are shaded by tropical forest. The rooms are exceptionally spacious with stunning views and detached bathrooms. Furnished with traditional and hand made furniture and linens made by local craftspeople, the rooms feel light and airy while perfectly complimenting their environment.

However, what really makes a stay at Mnemba Lodge a luxury experience is the personalised and professional service offered. Very knowlegable and friendly staff will be asigned to you upon arrival and are there to tailor your stay to your own needs throughout your time on the island.

Food and Drink at Mnemba Island Lodge

Tea and coffee is brought to your prvate banda each morning and breakfast can be taken in the banda or on the beach or your private veranda. Dinner is invariably served on the beach.

The food is top quality and staff will make sure that dishes are to your tastes. As a guest you get just what you ask for and though there is a menu it is really up to you. Fresh seafood dinners are generous and exceptional.

What to do at Mnemba Island Lodge

Diving, snorkelling, kayaking, fly-fishing and wind-surfing are all on offer from the hotel. Diving from the island is exceptional and guests can take their dive course from Mnemba. If you hold a PADI certificate then two dives per day are included in the hotel package.

The beaches are stunning with white sands and blue seas, tropical forest and palm trees fringing them, and very few other visitors. Bathing in sun and sea is obviously a large part of the island’s appeal. Mnemba Atoll is also renowned for its tropical forest and wildlife.

Dhow cruises by day and at sunset can alse be easily arranged.

How to get to Mnemba Island Lodge

The lodge offers a cheuffer service from Zanzibar Airport or Stone Town which connects with the boat to the island. The journey by road is long and hot, but the twenty minute boat trip at the end of it is both relaxing and comfortable. You may have to wade to catch the boat or from the boat to the island so it is advisable to wear shorts en route.
